Choral Conductor

Harvey is known for his conducting of choirs and inspiring singers of all ages.

"He leads with confidence and conducts with clarity and precision"

Jane Wilkinson, Soprano

Whilst at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, he has had tuition from Sarah Tenant-Flowers and previously with Paul Spicer. He established the St Cecilia’s Consort which performed a concert in December 2019 at St Paul's Church in the Jewellery Quarter

During Harvey’s time as Organ Scholar at Blackburn Cathedral he was Artistic Director and Conductor for the charitable concert ‘This is the Day’ which raised money for the next generation of musicians. This was a choir of forty mixed amateur voices from across Lancashire joined by four professional soloists. This project culminated in a spectacular performance which saw a large audience in attendance and was a huge success for all involved.

"It was clear from the very first rehearsal that Harvey was a consummate professional"

"His capabilities as an organist go hand in hand with his appreciation of choral music to make him a vigilant and effective choral director."

Sebastian Roberts

In 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic Harvey founded and conducted the virtual choir Vox Ex Animo and the virtual string ensemble Vox Anima Consort. This gave singers the opportunity to make music together during a time when musicians could not meet. Highlights of this time were producing a virtual choral evensong for the Diocese of Blackburn and a performance of Mozart’s Ave verum corpus.

"His professional attitude and leadership make him a highly commendable director"

Molly Welling, Cellist

"I have known Harvey now for several years, firstly as the organist at our Parish Church and then his progression to organ scholar at Blackburn Cathedral. When singing in his choir I find Harvey a knowledgeable and extremely talented musician. He strives for the best from his choirs in a sensitive and encouraging manner."

Jane Wilkinson, Soprano

"I have worked with Harvey Stansfield in the capacity of conductor on a number of occasions. His natural musicality is clear and this comes across in his approach to leading a choral group. He works well with singers and instantly gains the trust of those involved in the project. He leads with confidence and conducts with clarity and precision."

Anthony White, Composer

"Working alongside Harvey and establishing a virtual choir during the pandemic, during a challenging time for all was both a challenge, but an invaluable experience. During lockdowns, Harvey's musicianship and his love and passion for music shone even brighter during the most challenging of times and he exuded this in the virtual choir that we both set up 'Vox Ex Animo'. He has not only conducted and premiered a couple of my choral pieces, but also programmed my music in a handful of church services. To sum up Harvey in a few words is tough as he is a multi-faceted individual, not only is he a fine organist, but he is enthusiastic, passionate and hard working individual. I could not recommend him more! It is a pleasure to call Harvey my friend and colleague and I very much look forward to working with him again soon."
